Frequently Asked Questions

You don’t have to reach breaking point before you deserve support.

It’s natural to have questions before beginning counselling.  Many people want to understand how sessions work, what to expect, and whether this is the right step for them.

Below are answers to some of the questions I’m most often asked.  If anything remains unclear, please feel free to get in touch.

What is a Specialist Wellness Counsellor?

A wellness counsellor focuses on emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing within
ASCHP scope. I do not diagnose or treat severe mental health disorders.

Counselling focuses on emotional processing and healing. Coaching is forward-focused and goal-oriented.

Many people wonder this before reaching out.

You don’t need to be in crisis for counselling to be helpful. Some people come because they are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or struggling with self-worth or relationships. Others come simply because they want a supportive space to reflect, grow, and maintain their emotional wellbeing.

If something in your life feels difficult to carry alone, counselling can offer a steady place to explore it.

The first session is a gentle beginning.

We’ll spend some time talking about what brings you to counselling, what you’re hoping for, and any questions you may have about the process. You are welcome to share at your own pace — there is no pressure to explain everything all at once.

Together we’ll begin to understand what support might be most helpful for you moving forward.

Feeling nervous is very common.

Opening up to someone new can feel vulnerable, especially if you’ve been carrying things quietly for a long time. It’s completely okay to take things slowly. Counselling is a space where you can move at your own pace and share only what feels comfortable.

Many clients say that once they begin, they feel relieved to have a place where they can speak openly without judgement.

Yes.

Sometimes people come to counselling with a clear concern, and sometimes they simply know that something feels heavy, confusing, or difficult to manage.

Part of the counselling process is gently exploring what might be happening beneath the surface and finding ways forward that feel more manageable and supportive.

Not at all.

Many people use counselling as a way of maintaining emotional wellbeing, reflecting on life decisions, and strengthening their sense of self.

Just as we care for our physical health, counselling can be a supportive way of caring for our emotional and psychological health over time.

Yes. Confidentiality is maintained in line with ethical guidelines, with rare exceptions related to serious harm or legal obligation.

Yes. All sessions are conducted online.

Many clients begin weekly or bi-weekly, with frequency adjusted over time.

No. As a registered Specialist Wellness Counsellor under ASCHP, sessions are not claimable through medical aid. Payment is required in full at the time of booking.

Yes. I believe mental health support should be accessible. A small number of reduced-rate sessions are available based on financial need. Please raise this during your chemistry call or contact me to enquire.

A free 15-minute conversation to explore your needs and determine whether we are a good fit. There is no pressure or obligation.

“From the first session, I felt seen and understood. I left feeling lighter and more hopeful.”

This is the type of space I hold.

What Clients Say

Healing is deeply personal and many people arrive unsure whether counselling will help. Here are words from people who trusted me with their stories and chose to begin that journey.

Mana
“I broke free from limiting beliefs and started believing in myself.”

From the beginning of our sessions, I was encouraged to believe in myself, trust in the abilities God gave me, and be bold even in times of fear. I was encouraged to push past limiting beliefs and replace them with truth. I was taught that mistakes are not final — they are stepping stones to learning and growth.

I learnt that I am capable of doing hard things and coming out victorious. Practically, I learnt the importance of setting SMART goals and pushing myself beyond my comfort zone. I was able to open up about past experiences, both positive and negative, and gained useful tools to manage my emotions better. I truly appreciate the sessions and would recommend them to anyone ready to break free from limitations and step into growth.

“I felt seen, understood, and supported from day one.”

Counselling with Sethunya has been one of the best personal decisions of my adult life. I came in carrying suppressed emotions and old wounds. From the first session, she created a safe space where I felt understood and not judged.

Through her guidance, I learnt to sit with my emotions, trust myself more, and give myself permission to heal. The biggest shift has been my relationship with myself. I am kinder to myself and better equipped to relate to others. I am grateful.

“She helped me find light even while grieving.”

I went to Sethunya at one of the most painful times of my life. She gave me tools that helped me manage my emotions and focus on what really matters.

Instead of drowning in pain, I learnt how to process it and still keep living. I felt supported every step of the way. The sessions gave me clarity and hope, and I am truly thankful.

“She helped me see myself not as a victim, but as resilient and capable of growth.”

I started seeing Seth during a very dark time in my life, and her support was a beacon of light. Her empathy and honesty made me feel seen and understood, but never coddled. She is a fantastic listener who gently guides you toward your own truths.

With her help, I felt safe enough to explore painful memories and emotions I had kept hidden. Most importantly, she helped me change my perspective on my own story. I now see myself as resilient, strong, and capable of growth.

I cannot recommend her highly enough.
